Last Quarter: Recovery Act Funded Nearly 5,000 Oregon Jobs
Salem) – As Oregon works to revitalize its economy, Governor Kitzhaber announced today that in the last three months approximately 4,990 jobs were funded by $224 million in federal investments through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Recovery Act). This is the total investment during the quarter in all Recovery Act projects and services, including education, health care and unemployment assistance.
“The Recovery Act continues to fund a significant number of family-wage jobs in Oregon each quarter,” said Governor Kitzhaber. “This is an important achievement that’s helped thousands of Oregonians.”
Today’s data provides a preliminary look at the federal reporting period for Recovery Act funds. This information represents $224 million in expended grants that were managed by state agencies from January 1, 2011 through March 31, 2011.
The Governor also announced today that since the February 2009 passage of the Recovery Act, more than $2.4 billion in unemployment benefits, food stamps, health care and emergency cash assistance has been provided directly to individual Oregonians to help families struggling during the recession.
“The Recovery Act has helped Oregon families when they need it most, at a time when state revenues are declining and demand for services is increasing,” Governor Kitzhaber said. “The Recovery Act continues to provide much needed assistance and has helped to revive Oregon’s economy.”
